FRENCH DAYS FESTIVAL

22. July, 2020 - 26. July, 2020

A cultural festival, where the town of Fáskrúðsfjörður celebrates they´re special connection to France and the memory of French sailors that stayed in Fáskrúðsfjörður in various ways with representatives from the French town of Gravelines.

The festival’s focus is on French entertainment mixed in with the Icelandic. An example of that is the French boules games pétanque which has become an indispensable event in the festival.

Although the festival officially starts Friday night with a bon fire and a sing-a-long, the Thursday night walk called “kenderísgangan” has become a tradition for the locals.

Those fishermen who lost their lives at sea, both French and Icelandic, are commemorated in a simple ceremony by the French cemetery in Fáskrúðsfjörður, where two wreaths are laid down by the cemetery’s memorial.
