About the Concert

Guitarist and composer Mikael Máni will perform a mix of new and old original pieces, along with a selection of covers.

In March 2024, Mikael released his debut solo guitar album Guitar Poetry under the German label ACT, one of Europe’s leading jazz record companies. His music does not fit neatly into conventional jazz categories; instead, it blends influences from folk music, echoes of blues, American roots music, and a unique cinematic touch.

Through dynamic and flowing improvisation, he merges these elements in a poetic manner, with the clarity and raw sincerity of a singer-songwriter. His compositions tell stories, open up spaces and landscapes, paint vivid pictures, and reflect the essence of a guitarist who is as unconventional as he is accessible—a self-described „extroverted introvert“ who expresses emotion through musical storytelling.

International media have taken notice of Mikael’s distinctive style and heartfelt performance, showering him with praise. Guitar Poetry received an impressive 4.5-star review in Downbeat, the most prestigious jazz magazine of recent decades. His previous album, Innermost, also won the Icelandic Music Award for Jazz Album of the Year.
