17. June, 2022 - 31. August, 2022
The summer exhibition of the Museum of East Iceland, Hreindýradraugur # 3, will be formally opened on the Icelandic national holiday. The French artist François Lelong will exhibit sculptures and drawings inspired by reindeer and the nature of East Iceland.
This is the artist’s third exhibition in Iceland, having previously exhibited in Húsavík and Skriðuklaustur in Fljótsdalur. The reindeer, their existence in East Iceland and their absence elsewhere in the country have inspired him.
At his first exhibition in Iceland, which was set up in Húsavík, the absence of the reindeer was his concern and the work was inspired by the fact that one time the reindeer were part of the nature of the North but no longer. Instead, they live on in the imagination of human beings and appear through bones, trees and plants. Since then, François has further developed this idea and worked from the mystery and mystery that accompanies the reindeer.
In his work, François emphasizes the use of natural ingredients, e.g. reindeer horn. The exhibition will feature both older works and new works that Francois has been working on in recent weeks here in the east.
The exhibition will be formally opened on the Icelandi National Day (June 17th) at 14:30. After that, it will be open during the opening hours of the Museum of East Iceland, but the museum is open every day this summer from 10: 00-18: 00
