HIDDEN – Agnieszka Rowińska

8. December, 2024

„In my artistic practice, I explore themes of the unconscious and collective imagination, drawing inspiration from the theories of Freud, Jung, and the mythology studied by Campbell. I am fascinated by how dreams, symbols, and archetypes transcend time and cultures, creating shared fields of experience. My works attempt to capture what escapes language—a hidden world within the subconscious that shapes our perception of reality.
During a four-week residency at the home of writer Gunnar Gunnarsson in Iceland, I created three lightboxes. Returning to this technique, which I had abandoned several years ago due to technical challenges, was an effort to overcome past obstacles. My inspiration came from dreams that became unusually vivid during my stay in Iceland.
The lightboxes are motion-activated—only the presence of a viewer reveals their second layer. The compositions of shadows, vibrating thanks to pulsating light, are illustrations of dreams where reality intertwines with memories and reflections. In these works, I see traces of the books I read during the residency, memories evoked by the journey, and the experience of being immersed in Iceland. These pieces become carriers of multilayered narratives, where personal experiences meet universal motifs.“
The exhibition „Hidden“ invites the audience into a space where light becomes a medium for dreams, imagination, and the unconscious—a world visible only for a moment and only to those who choose to come closer.
